Sanya Jingrun Pearl Cultural Center

This center is the result of a 20 million Yuan investment by the Hainan Jingrun Pearl Company. It features a small museum which visitors pass through as they enter the building before moving on to a large pearl jewelry shopping area. The museum contains some displays of pearls and culturing equipment, likely intended to butter you up for the shopping ahead by awing you with the beauty of the pearl and the amazing culturing process.

The shopping area contains many elegant glass enclosed displays of some indeed beautiful pearl jewelry, prices ranging anywhere from 100 to 80, 000 Yuan. The differences in price are attributed to the source, quality, and size of the pearls. On the lower end are man-made pearls – made of clam shells, then cultured fresh water pearls, and finally cultured salt water pearls. You will find various sizes, colors, and lusters of pearls mounted on a wide array of earrings, rings, pendants, and of course strung on your traditional pearl necklace, ranging from the simple to the more extravagant. You can also purchase some pearl cosmetics, such as powders and creams. The pearls are cultured in Lingshui, a smaller town about an hour away from Sanya.

Prices are clearly marked on all jewelry, but you can probably get about a 20 % discount just by asking. Size adjustments can be made on rings and necklaces and can be ready the next day. The center is a “tourism culture project” created to attract tourists to buy pearl merchandise, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get some high quality jewelry at a fair price.
